Louis G. Alfano, 83

He was married for 56 years to Mary Alfano, and a member of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame. Calling hours are Sunday.

Louis G. Alfano, of Riverside, East Providence, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was 83.

He was married to Mary (Boyajian) Alfano for 56 years. Born in Warren, he was a son of the late Francisco and Margaret (Sullo) Alfano.

Alfano worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years before retiring. He was a graduate of Warren High School and was inducted into the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a avid golfer and a member of the Montaup Golf Course for many years. He achieved a hole-in-one in 2004. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Col. Diane Fletcher and her husband Larry of Barrington, Susan Place and her husband, Jack of Barrington and Nancy Kogut and her husband, Steve of Cranston; one son, Michael Alfano and his wife, Carole of New Hampshire and eight grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Phyllis Figuerida, Rose Camera, Mary Codola, Anthony and William Alfano.

His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 am from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Brendan's Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside. Burial, with military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.

Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 3, from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Home & Hospice Care of RI would be appreciated.
