Maria P. Soares, of East Providence, died Thursday, Jan.17, 2013, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was 88.
She was the wife of the late Manuel A. Soares. Born in Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Melo) Pinheiro.
Soares leaves four daughters, Manuela Sousa, Connie daPonte, MaryJo Pacheco and Lidia Tavares; five sons, Antonio, Henrique, Jose, Gilbert and John Soares; one sister, Angelina Leite; 29 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Eduarda Travassos.

Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 8 pm at the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucke Ave., East Providence. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9 am from Perry-McStay with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street, East Providence.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
