Marian E. (Martin) McGowan, 99: RI Case Aide, Traveler, Gardener
Services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. in the chapel of Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery.
Marian E. (Martin) McGowan 99, of South Broadway died Tuesday Oct. 15, 2013 at her home according to the Perry McStay Funeral Home.
She was the wife of the late J. Ford McGowan.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah F. and Anna (Theilig) Martin.Mrs. McGowan was a case aide for the state of Rhode Island before retiring. She was a 1937 graduate of Brown University.
McGowan loved traveling, reading, gardening and was very artistic. She considered her most important job to be the mother of Gail Koplow and her partner Carol Friedman of Swampscott, MA, James F. McGowan and his wife Edith of Middleboro MA, Martha McGowan-Griffin and her husband Tom of Barrington, Anne Teipel and her husband Michael of Orlando FL and Roberta McGowan of Swampscott, MA.
She also leaves seventeen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late A. Virginia Smith and mother in-law of the late Michael D. Koplow.
A committal service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence RI 02904-9826 would be appreciated.
