Richard G. Sweetland, 89

Truck driver for Johnson Motor Lines was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Richard G. Sweetland, of of Ridgewood Drive, Rumford, East Providence, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the Rhode Island Veterans Home. He was 89.

He was the husband of Virginia M. (Pandolfini) Sweetland. Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late George G. and Arabel (Hubbard) Sweetland.

Sweetland was a truck driver for Johnson Motor Lines before retiring and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Susan Murray of Seekonk, one son; Richard Sweetland of West Warwick, one sister; Evelyn Peck of Cumberland and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Gary Sweetland.

His funeral and visitation will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am in the Perry McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Margaret's Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be private.
