Robert E. Harrison, 98: Served on USS Alaska in WWII, Owner of A.S. Bunn & Company

Robert E. Harrison, 98, of East Providence, died Jan. 3, 2014 at Evergreen House Health Center, according to Perry-McStay Funeral Home.  

He was the husband of the late Lillian (Smithers) Harrison.  Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Herbert and Lillian (Shelmardine) Harrison, he lived in East Providence for more than 76 years.

Bob served on the USS Alaska during World War II. He was the proprietor of A. S. Bunn and Company on Thayer Street, Providence for over fifty years. He is survived by two daughters, Joan E. Kent of East Providence and Judith A. Vollaro of Barrington and a son, Robert E. Harrison of Exeter; a sister, Ruth White of Riverside, CA, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.  He was the brother of the late James Harrison.

His funeral service was held this morning at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington. Burial, with Military Honors, was in Swan Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906 or CSF of East Providence, P.O. The family would like to thank all his “friends” at Evergreen for their kindness during his stay.
