Robert J. Cooke, 85, Retired E.P. Detective

His calling hours are today and his funeral is Friday from Perry-McStay Funeral Home in East Providence.

Robert J. Cooke, a retired East Providence Police detective, of Franklin Street, Riverside died Monday, July 29, 2013 at his home. He was 85.

Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mildred (Phillips) Cooke. He was a detective on the East Providence Police Department for 36 years before retiring. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He leaves two daughters, Sharon A. Mello with whom he made his home and Christine Marcello of Riverside, one son, Robert J. Cooke of Warwick, one sister, Cheryl Lawrence of West Greenwich, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was the brother of the late Olive Hardiman, Marie Rogers and Samuel Cooke.

His funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, at 9 am from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a service at 10 am in Seekonk Congregational Church, 600 Fall River Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery.

Calling hours are today from 5-8 pm at Perry-McStay. In lieu of flowers contributions to the East Providence Police Beneficial Association, 750 Waterman Ave., East Providence, RI 02914 would be appreciated.
