Ruth S. Medeiros, 88: Retired Housekeeper at Butler Hospital

Ruth S. Medeiros, 88, of Newman Ave., Rumford, died Jan. 14, 2014 at Home and Hospice Care of RI, surrounded by her loving family, according to Rebello Funeral Home.

She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Medeiros. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Frank P. and Olive (Bicho) Souza.

Ruth worked as a housekeeper at Butler Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the American Legion Post 10, in Riverside.

She is survived by her daughters; Janice Coia of Johnston, Joann Whalen and Robin M. Bothelo both of Riverside, 6 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and many great great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Alice DiPalma and Geraldine Bettencourt both of Rumford. She was the sister of the late Anna Lupo, Madeline Ruggerio, Clarence, Joseph, Alfred, William, Robert, Albert and Frank Souza.

Her funeral will be on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 5-8 p.m.
