Beaten, Strangled Woman Dies from Injuries

The East Providence woman was allegedly attacked Aug. 13 by her husband, who authorities say killed himself in Seekonk later that day.

An East Providence woman who authorities say was severely beaten and strangled by her husband Aug. 13 died from her injuries Sunday, according toWPRI-TV in Providence.

Authorities say Lucy Ponte, 54, had been beaten by her husband Mario Ponte, 48. He was found dead from an apparent suicide later that day at a farm in Seekonk where he worked.

The cause of Ponte's death is under investigation, according to WPRI.

Thanks, Paul. It's not cool to hit anyone. Better to use brain power and verbal skills than fists. Most women have learned that and guys can, too.

This was a great loss. I had the pleasure of working side by side with this women on a committee. She always had a passion for life. She will be missed

Jonathan: Perhaps, but there's still strong encouragement for boys to hit back. If they're encouraged to hit back, it should not be surprising if they hit both boys and girls. Boys are too often taught that it's unmanly to cry and manly to hit.

And what happens if a boy OR girl does not have the "brain power and verbal skills"? How about some good old fashioned self-control? Jonathan: Unfortunately, some women have not had good experiences with men and tend to paint all you guys with a broad brush. The men I know will fight if they have to fight, yet know when to stand down. That, IMO, is the way it ought to be.
