The victim, 22, not identified, remains in critical but stable condition. He was shot in the chest, police said.

He was shot in the park near John Street and McCausland Avenue around 11:45 am after an altercation by a group of adults playing basketball. One gunshot was fired, police said.

The man was treated at the scene by East Providence EMTs before being transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

A neighbor first called in the altercation at the park and then called back while officers were on the way and said there might have been a gun fired.

The two brothers left the scene and were tracked down at their apartment, police said.
