E.P. Cops Nab Alleged Car Thief

A Spartanburg, S.C. man was arrested on a warrant for allegedly stealing a car in South Carolina and driving it to RI.

A South Carolina man, 52, was picked up on a warrant for stealing a car after East Providence police responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Sutton Avenue.

Alonzo T. Jones, of Spartanburg, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 4, around 5:15 pm. He allegedly stole a 2010 Chevrolet 4-door vehicle owned by a woman in Spartanburg and then drove the car to Rhode Island.

The vehicle was confiscated by East Providence police and was returned to the owner, according to the police report. Its value was reported as $10,000.

Jones was arraigned on the charge and taken to the ACI to await extradition by Spartanburg police.
