East Bay Tavern Patron Twerks Cop, Flees Arrest

A belligerent patron at East Bay Tavern may have allowed pop culture to influence his decisions when he rubbed his rear-end against an officer's crotch Nov. 2 when the policeman asked him to go home without his beer.

EP Patrol Officer Justin M. Ogni was called to the bar at 305 Lyon Ave. to help clear people out of the establishment, and stopped Colin E. Gomes, 22, of 27 Mary Ave., Apt. 3, who was attempting to carry out his drink with him, according to Ogni's report.

When Ogni told him he couldn't walk out with it, the officer reported, Gomes threw the cup on the floor, spilling the drink. Ogni told him to pick up the cup, and throw it out. Gomes picked up the cup and began moving to the trash bin as Ogni followed to make sure he threw it out.

As Ogni followed Gomes, the patron bent over in front of the officer, moving his buttocks toward the man's groin, making contact. As he did, Gomes said, "Oh, yeah, baby, that's what I'm trying to do," Ogni reported.

Ogni considered that an assault, and attempted to arrest Gomes on the charge, but he resisted arrest, fleeing down Lyon Avenue before Ogni and another officer caught him.

Gomes was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault.
