An East Providence man, 41, was arrested on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 1, after an investigation of counterfeiting and forgery by East Providence detectives.
Zafiriades (Paul) Apostolos, of 17 Crescent View Ave., was arrested at about 1:06 pm by patrol officers at his apartment. The investigation involved a complaint that he used stolen checks to purchase goods, according to the police report.
Apostolos was spotted by patrol officers outside his apartment. He ran into the apartment to elude officers and initially refused to open the door at their request, according to the arrest report.
After a few minutes, he did open the door to the apartment. Apostolos claimed that he wanted to take care of an issue that would have caused him personal embarrassment before consenting to open the door to police officers.
Apostolos faces two charges of counterfeiting and forgery and one count of receiving stolen goods. He was arraigned at the police station and released with a date in court to face the charges, which do not mean a conviction.
