E.P. Police Search For Broadway Mart Robber

Suspect took $250, fled on foot during Saturday Robbery.

East Providence Police continue to investigate a robbery at the Broadway Mart at 1051 South Broadway Oct. 26 at 10:13 p.m., searching for a man in his 20s or 30s, with brown eyes and eyebrows and medium build who the clerk said has robbed the store before.

Officers were called to the store and spoke with the clerk, who said a man wearing a gray hoodie and a bath washcloth over his face had walked in, his hand holding what appeared to be a gun beneath the sweatshirt, according to a police report of the incident.

The clerk described the man as 5'7", medium build, with a little bit of a belly but not fat, brown eyes and eyebrows. The robber told the clerk, "Open up the drawer or I'll f***ing kill you." The clerk hit an alarm button then filled a bag with about $250 in ten, one and five dollar bills. The robber told the clerk he knew there was more money, but left when the clerk assured him that was all there was. Before he left, he warned the clerk not to move, again threatening to kill him if he did, according to the report.

The clerk called 911 and exited the store with the phone, watching the robber run down Mauran Avenue along the west bound shoulder. The clerk told officers he is positive the robber is the same man who robbed the store a month ago.

Police obtained video surveillance of the robbery and fingerprints from the store. From the video, the robber appears to have dark brown hair and was wearing grey and black sneakers, according to the police report.
