EPPD Continues Search for Officer's Gun Stolen by Son

East Providence Police Chief Joseph Tavares said Tuesday police continue to investigate the theft of an East Providence Police officer's gun by the officer's son, a minor.

"Our first priority is to locate that firearm and make sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands," said Tavares, who declined to comment further on the matter.

The theft was reported Monday by Turnto10.com, after Cranston Police and State Police searched a Cranston home during the investigation of the theft Friday.

One 18-year-old Cranston man was arrested during that search on an unrelated warrant, according to a WPRI.com report.

Tavares told Turnto10.com the officer's son was charged over the weekend and was expected to be arraigned in Family Court on Tuesday.
