Fire Station Renovations Starting

East Providence Fire Department headquarters' staff moving to Senior Center complex during construction; Fire Station #4 moving to 175 Amaral St.

Work begins next week on the total renovations of two East Providence fire stations, including the headquarters.

The work means, said Fire Chief Joseph Klucznik, that the administrative offices for the East Providence Fire Department will be temporarily located at Sweetland House, 610 Waterman Ave., at the East Providence Senior Center complex beginning next Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Fire personnel and apparatus from Station #4 on Wampanoag Trail also will be temporarily relocated to 175 Amaral St. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, Klucznik.

"These relocations will be in effect through August of next year," he said.

The relocations are the result of a $6.4 million Station Construction Grant that the fire department obtained through the Federal Emergency Management Agency via the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009, said the fire chief.

"The grant allows for the complete renovations of Station #1 (Headquarters), located at 913 Broadway, and Station # 4, located at 66 Wampanoag Trail.

Fire apparatus and responding fire personnel will remain at Fire Station #1 during the construction phase.

All fire department telephone numbers will remain the same, Klucznik said.

During the construction phase, the following fire department administrators will be relocated to the Sweetland House: fire chief and staff, fire prevention staff, and fire alarm inspector.

Engine 4, Rescue 4 and the director of emergency medical services will be relocated to 175 Amaral St., the fire chief said.
