Firefighters Battle Fire at Warren Avenue Liquor Mart

East Providence firefighters battled a blaze Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, at the three-story Warren Avenue Liquor Mart at 208 Warren Avenue on the corner with Lyon Avenue.

No one was injured although one person evacuated from the building refused medical treatment, said East Providence Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian.

The fire started on the east side of the building on the first floor and spread up into the second floor because of the "balloon construction" that allows fires to spread up outside walls, said Elmasian. Details of the damage and the cause were still being pulled together.

The fire was reported around 10:52 am.

"It could have been a bad one," said Elmasian. But the quick response by firefighters quickly contained the fire to the first two floors.

Firefighters were still on the scene around 12:35 pm. But it appeared they were looking only for hotspots that might remain. It was still too early to determine what started the plaze.

"We're just starting that," said Elmasian.
