Forbes Street Landfill Fire 'Would Have Burned for Days'

According to Fire Chief Joseph Klucznik, firefighters extinguished a fire fueled by piles of "large scale debris."

The brush fire that ignited the Forbes Street Landfill this weekend was never in danger of harming residential property, said East Providence Fire Chief Joseph Klucznik.

"It would have been nice to let it burn out...But the smoke was carrying toward the residential area," said the chief.

According to reports from WPRI, firefighters were still on the scene trying to extinguish the fire into Saturday night.
