Man, 21, Busted for 'Pot' on His Lap

An East Providence man is spotted by a police officer with a marijuana cigarette on his lap outside a convenience store.

An East Providence man, 21, should probably have known better than to leave a marijuana cigarette sitting on his lap in plain view of a police officer.

Thomas J. Raposo, of 65 Martello St., now faces a marijuana possession charge for the second time.

Raposo was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Jeep Cherokee outside the Four Corners Market on Warren Avenue at around 8:40 pm last Tuesday. An East Providence police officer walked by and first noticed “blunt” shavings on the ground outside the driver’s door. A “blunt” is a cigar carved out for insertion of marijuana.

His curiosity was piqued, of course. Raposo was soon arrested along with a 16-year-old boy from East Providence who was sitting in the passenger seat.

Police found three marijuana cigarettes in a cigarette pack the juvenile had stashed in a pocket. He faces a charge of marijuana possession, first offense.

Police also found two other juveniles hiding in the rear deck area of the vehicle, according to the police report. One was believed to be violating a court-ordered curfew, which proved false.

The juveniles were transported to the police station to wait for their parents. Neither was charged.
