Man, 21, Busted for 'Pot' on His Lap

An East Providence man is spotted by a police officer with a marijuana cigarette on his lap outside a convenience store.

An East Providence man, 21, should probably have known better than to leave a marijuana cigarette sitting on his lap in plain view of a police officer.

Thomas J. Raposo, of 65 Martello St., now faces a marijuana possession charge for the second time.

Raposo was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Jeep Cherokee outside the Four Corners Market on Warren Avenue at around 8:40 pm last Tuesday. An East Providence police officer walked by and first noticed “blunt” shavings on the ground outside the driver’s door. A “blunt” is a cigar carved out for insertion of marijuana.

His curiosity was piqued, of course. Raposo was soon arrested along with a 16-year-old boy from East Providence who was sitting in the passenger seat.

Police found three marijuana cigarettes in a cigarette pack the juvenile had stashed in a pocket. He faces a charge of marijuana possession, first offense.

Police also found two other juveniles hiding in the rear deck area of the vehicle, according to the police report. One was believed to be violating a court-ordered curfew, which proved false.

The juveniles were transported to the police station to wait for their parents. Neither was charged.

Are we really still arresting people on this bullshit even though next year this will all be legal up to an ounce of it. Why? To earn a couple stripes you give someone a record and take loads of money from them. Way to come up in this world, at the expense of others. EPPD really are just pigs. Get some real criminals if u want respect, instead of busting 16 year olds for a " marijuana cigarette"

Nosaj ... Sex offenders...serial killers...stabbings...shootings...homocides...suicides...extortion...war...all things that are considered crimes...we the people smoke bcuz of all of the crimes that surround us on a daily basis but yet something so natural to mankind is considered a crime bcuz cops rather take it easy at work rather then find real criminals which in reality actually sit behind bulletproof glass at the police station...i understand being posted in one spot waiting for innocent people to drive by with there headlights off or a glimpse of smoke exiting the vehicle can be stressful but why bother taking away the rights of the people when in reality the criminals are standing behind bages ....it is wat it is ima take it easy n pray that we realise one day that the people make up the government n we dont have to be sheeps

You can't fault the police for enforcing the law. The legislature wants to legalize pot but until they do so, it's still illegal to possess it. There is a process tha must be followed.

To bad the story that is printed wasn't the truth!! Boy do the cops know how to turn the facts around just to get a pat on the back. We have kids hiding in school rooms, in the corners for 2 hrs, threats being made everyday and we are worrying about a "marijuana cigarette". They should be worrying about the guns that can KILL!!!!
