Man, 52, Charged With Stealing Cold Remedy

A Barrington man was nabbed by East Providence police outside a Rite-Aid pharmacy in Riverside.

A Barrington man, 52, was charged by East Providence police with shoplifting a bottle of cold medicine last week. 

Raymond Alexander, of 201 Washington Road, was observed allegedly placing a cold remedy into a bag that was carrying a prescription he had picked up a few minutes earlier, according to the East Providence arrest report. The alleged shoplifting occurred at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Willett Avenue in Riverside on Tuesday, April 2.

The off-the-shelf medicine had a price tag of $6.99. Alexander still had $10 in his wallet, according to the arrest report.

Alexander told police he did not know how the cold medicine got into the bag. He was nabbed outside the store by police officers contacted by pharmacy store security personnel.

The man was taken to the police station and charged. He also was given a warning never to step inside that store again or face a trespassing charge.

Alexander’s wife responded to the pharmacy parking lot to pick up their car and drive him home with a date in District Court.
