Man Allegedly Walks on Door on Top of Girlfriend During Assault

East Providence man faces three counts of domestic abuse for alleged assault on Brown Street. A charge does not mean a conviction.

An East Providence man, 41, faces three counts of domestic violence after he allegedly threw his girlfriend to the floor, pulled a door off its hinges, threw it on top of her and then walked on top of the door.
 
East Providence police reported that David D. Goncalves, of 52 Brown St., assaulted both his girlfriend, 42, and her mother, 78, early Saturday morning, July 27. The mother tried to intervene when she was allegedly pushed to the floor.
 
Police responded to a 4:27 am call about possible domestic abuse. They found an interior door on the floor along with a broken ceramic statue that apparently fell on the floor during the altercation.They also were told that Goncalves pushed both alleged victims in the face.

Goncalves was charged with two counts of domestic abuse and one count of domestic vandalism for damaging the door and statue. He was arrested and taken to the police station to be charged and given a date to face the charges in District Court.
