UPDATE: Man Killed After Driving Mustang Into Tree Overnight Identified

AG, State Police performing routine investigation into crash that killed Anthony Lescarbeau.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office and the RI State Police are investigating a fatal crash overnight caused when Anthony Lescarbeau, 33, fled Woonsocket Police during a traffic stop.

The driver of the red Ford Mustang was transported to Rhode Island hospital by helicopter last night and has since died, WPRI.com reports.

Emily Martineau, spokesperson for Kilmartin's office, said the Attorney General and the State Police are conducting an investigation into the crash, which is routine under these circumstances.

Martineau said last night, Woonsocket Police were making a traffic stop when the driver of the Mustang, whom Martineau would only identify as a 33-year-old man from the Blackstone area, fled, crashing into a tree.

A resident who lives nearby and declined to be identified said she had just come home from walking her dog at about 11:15 p.m. and closed her door when she heard the crash outside. She opened the door and saw the Mustang against a nearby tree with a police cruiser stopped behind it.

Woonsocket Police Lt. Eugene Jalette declined to speak about the crash, referring queries to the Attorney General's office. WPRI.com reports that police have identified the driver as Anthony Lescarbeau, 33. The report does not indicate whether State Police or Woonsocket Police disclosed the driver's identity.

Turnto10.com has a photo of the crash scene at the corner of Grove Avenue and Blakely Street. Lescarbeau was conscious when firefighters pulled him from the wreck.

Earlier reports of this incident stated the driver had crashed into a pole. Updates state it was in fact a tree. Woonsocket Patch will update this report as more information becomes available.

You people need to knock it off. I've known Anarchy and Toymom for basically my entire life. Can't people see that my mom and I are hurting???? Does it not matter that my brother and my sister both died 5 days apart????? Can we just get along??? Is there a need to fight and call names and insist people did this or that??? How would you feel if you lost your big brother and big sister 5 days apart and are all alone without them??? Let me and my family heal. Enough is enough. Stop the drama or don't post it's that simple. God RIP to my brother Anthony and RIP to my sister Amy. We'll meet again some day.
