Man, Woman Arrested for Shoplifting from Stop & Shop

East Providence Police were dispatched to Stop & Shop Supermarket Oct. 29 at 2:37 p.m. for a shoplifting report, arresting a man and a woman for stealing about $53.49 in assorted groceries.

When officers arrived on the scene, one of the alleged shoplifters was in the parking lot, being pointed out by a store employee. The officers arrested the woman and placed her in handcuffs, according to the police report.

The woman, identified as Deanna C. Beauregard, 18, of 292 New York Ave., Providence, was carrying a black device with orange tags on it, used to remove items from security boxes. She told officers she had been in the store with a man, whose name she said she couldn't provide, and that they had arrived in a black Honda.

Officers located the car in the store's lot, and kept an eye on it in case the man returned. They transported Beauregard to EP Police headquarters. While processing, officers reported they found no contraband or cash on her person.

While they were at the station, officers posted at the store arrested the man, identified as Diovanni Irizarry, 19, as he drove the car to the Burger King on Taunton Ave. He told officers he and the woman had shoplifted the food because times were tough. He said he had dropped the food so loss prevention could retrieve it, and had run to Goldsmith Manor to hide before returning to his car.

Beauregard and Irizarry were each charged with shoplifting. They will appear in Sixth District Court on the charges Nov. 7.
