Two allegedly drunk Cumberland man face larceny charges after they refused to pay for drinks at a Rumford restaurant, which led to a scuffle with the store manager.

Two reportedly drunk Cumberland men face charges for larceny after an early-morning scuffle on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the McDonald’s restaurant on Newport Avenue in East Providence.

The men, Nicholas C. Strachan, 23, and Mark J. O’Brien, 25, allegedly attempted to fill up paper cups with soda without paying for the drinks. They had placed an order at the counter for food without drinks, according to the East Providence arrest report.

The store manager confronted the men and asked them to pay for the drinks. A confrontation ensued and she was allegedly pushed to the floor by the men, according to the police report.

The men then left the restaurant in a car that they had apparently driven up over a curb and onto mulch outside the restaurant when they arrived.

Several East Providence patrol officers responded to the restaurant. They immediately issued a be-on-the-lookout order for the vehicle. It was stopped a short distance away.
