Police Hope to ID Stealers at Savers

Two women allegedly distracted an elderly woman and stole her purse.

East Providence Police said two women walked into the Saver's at 1925 Pawtucket Avenue on Feb. 17 and used a distraction technique to steal a purse from an elderly woman while she was shopping.

The victim was shopping at the store when she was approached by a black female who offered to assist her with a pair of pants, police said. That's when the second suspect stole the victim's purse.

The purse contained assorted cash and credit cards.

The cards were then used at the Stop and Shop and Best Buy stores in Seekonk, Mass. The suspects tried to use the cards at an Exxon in Wyoming, RI, but the transaction was denied.

The suspects might be from Connecticut or New York due to the fact the last charge on the victim's card was near the Rhode Island state line.

If you have any information, call East Providence Police Det. Jose Taveira at 401-435-7600 ext. 20037.
