Skateboarder Charged After Leading Police on Chase Through Riverside

Riverside man, 25, charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct on Monday, Sept. 30.

A skateboarder on Willett Avenue traveling north in the southbound lane jubst before midnight on Monday, Sept. 30, faces three charges for refusing to obey East Providence patrol officers.

Salvadore C. Pereira Jr., 25, of 164 Crescent View Ave., led East Providence patrol officers on a chase through Riverside after he allegedly refused to acknowledge a request to yield to traffic and halt his ride. The chase resulted in him being charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and failure to obey a police officer.

The police report indicates that Pereira first fled from a patrol officer through backyards on Scott Drive before showing up again on Willett Avenue. Patrol officers then chased him on and around Rounds Avenue, Bowen Court and Florence Street, according to the police report.

Pereira allegedly refused to stop because he had something hidden in his right hand, according to the police report. There was no doubt, according to the arrest report, that he “intentionally avoiding police.”

Pepper spray finally was needed to subdue him, according to the police report, which indicated that Pereira tried to keep his right hand tucked out of sight even as he was captured. The police report did not indicate what he was trying to keep hidden and nothing was reported found in his hand when he was finally caught.

He was charged at the police station and given an Oct. 9 date to appear in District Court and a Nov. 7 date to appear before the RI Traffic Tribunal.
