State Trooper Log: Marijuana Charge Scofflaw, $20,000 Heroin Bust

Troopers catch up with man wanted for missing court on EP pot charge
On Oct. 8, at 4 p.m., troopers, arrested Derek Laporte, age 30, of 7 Manchester St., Pawtucket, RI for a Sixth District Court Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for Ability to Pay on the original charge of Possession of Marijuana from East Providence Police Department.
The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 4 North. Laporte was transported to the Wickford Barracks for processing and was later transported to Adult Correctional Institution's-Intake Center.
Troopers arrest Providence man, seize $20K worth of heroin
On Oct. 9, 2013 at 9:30 a.m., members of the HIDTA Task Force executed a court authorized search warrant at 161 Chapin Street, Providence that resulted in the seizure of two hundred and fifty (250) grams of heroin in a school zone. The Trinity Performing Arts Academy, 158 Messer Street, Providence, RI is located approximately six hundred (600) feet from the residence. The retail street value of 250 grams of heroin is estimated to be $20,000.
Enrique Lopez, age 32, 161 Chapin Street, Providence is alleged to have been in possession of the two hundred and fifty (250) grams of heroin and ten (10) grams of cocaine. He was arrested and charged with:
1) Possession of Heroin 1 Ounce - 1 Kilogram 2) Possession of Heroin with Intent to Deliver 3) Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Deliver 4) Distribution of a controlled substance in a School Zone 5) Three (3) Family Court Reciprocal Body Attachment warrants for non- support.

Mr. Lopez was processed at the Lincoln Barracks and arraigned in Sixth Division District Court. The Honorable Associate Judge Terrance Houlihan held Mr. Lopez without bail on the above charges at the Adult Correctional Institute until an October 23, 2013 bail hearing.
