West Lane at Waterman/Pawtucket Ave. Intersection Blocked

DPW crew fixing burst water main pipe.

DPW workers fixing a burst water main, one of several the city has dealt with during recent cold-warm weather, shut the westbound lane of the Waterman Avenue intersection with Pawtucket Avenue today.

The main has actually been broken since Saturday thanks to the recent storm, said DPW Director Steve Coutu, but getting his crews to it has taken time due to the high number of water main bursts this week. "They've been inundated with water main breaks throughout the city," Coutu said.

While water pipe bursts are more common in the winter, the recent hot-cold running weather isn't helping. "That kind of exacerbates it," Coutu said.

Coutu said he hopes to have the main fixed today.
