Worker Injured in Explosion at Plant

A glass flask exploded at mid-day today, Oct. 18, at Spectra Systems in the Westminster Industrial Park in East Providence, injuring a worker.

An explosion of a glass flask injured a worker this afternoon, Oct. 18, at an East Providence chemicals plant.

The explosion is believed to have occurred between 2:30 and 3 pm at Spectra Systems, 46 Amaral Stt., in the Westminster Industrial Park.

East Providence Fire Capt. Oscar Elmasion said firefighters were ready to begin conducting an investigation into the blast at about 3:30 pm after the worker was treated by EMTs and then taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

“He received cuts to his hand, abdomen and head,” Elmasian said.

Spectra Systems is believed to produce dyes, inks and pigments, the captain said.
