City Council Nixes 6-Hour Parking Near Six Corners

The East Providence City Council rejects a motion to change a 2-hour parking zone to 6 hours on Taunton Avenue.

No more changes to parking near Six Corners. 

The East Providence City Council rejected a motion Tuesday night, Sept. 3, to change an area of Taunton Avenue to 6-hour parking. The vote was 3-2, according to the East Providence Post.

Mayor James Briden, Assistant Mayor Thomas Rose and City Councilor Helder Cunha, whose district includes the area, voted against making a change. Councilors Chrissy Rossi, who brought the motion to the council, and Tracey Capobianco voted for the change.

“I’m not for six-hour parking only because there’s a bus stop there,” said Cunha. We’ve dealt with this issue before. It’s over. I don’t think it’s a good idea to put six-hour parking near a bus stop and it would affect businesses who have already complained to me about it before.”
