City Manager Asks RI to Scrap Budget Board

East Providence City Manager Peter Graczykowski has asked RI revenue director to abolish Budget Commission, which sits only to handle personnel matters right now.

East Providence’s city manager wants the Budget Commission to be abolished as soon as possible. It sits in the city right now only to handle personnel matters, such as all hirings and firings.

City Manager Peter Graczykowski has sent a letter to Rosemary Booth Gallogly, RI revenue director, asking that the commission be scrapped, according to the East Providence Post.

Gallogly’s only response to the letter so far is to say that the department is focusing on hiring a financial advisor for the city under the mandate of the state's Fiscal Stability Act.

“In response to the letters concerning the Budget Commission, the position of finance advisor has been posted and we are working diligently towards fulfilling the statutory requirements of the Fiscal Stability Act with respect to ongoing oversight,” Gallogly wrote in an email response to The Post on Thursday.

The Budget Commission left E.P. briefly before returning at the request of Mayor James Briden when Graczykowski put Police Chief Joseph Tavares on leave back in April.
