East Providence has finally filled its position of human resource director, who will serve the city and the schools in a consolidated position.
The position has been vacant since last April, and it took two searches to fill the post.
Kathleen Waterbury, of Seekonk, Mass., was approved by the East Providence Budget Commission at its meeting Thursday afternoon, Jan. 17. She will be paid $95,000 a year.
East Providence City Manager Peter Graczykowki made the recommendation of Waterbury to the Budget Commission on behalf of himself and Interim Superintendent John DeGoes. She will take over for Heather Martino, the budget board’s municipal advisor, who was serving as interim human resources director.
Waterbury has more than 16 years of human resources management experience in both private and public organizations, said Graczykowski. She has been a staffing manager, senior human resources business partner and a human resources manager. She holds degrees in organizational development and human resource management.
The consolidated HR director will work under both the city manager and the superintendent of schools. She “will assume responsibility for the direction, planning, coordination and administration of all programs, functions and activities of the consolidated municipal and school human resource functions.”
