Poll: What Do You Think About The Prayer Banner Decision?

A federal judge ordered the Cranston school department to remove a painted "school prayer" from the Cranston West auditorium — what do you think?

On Wednesday afternoon, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Lagueux ruled that the "school prayer" painted on a wall of the Cranston High School West auditorium , finding that the prayer mural violates a 1962 Supreme Court decision banning prayer in public schools.

The decision — and the public discussion leading up to it — has been a flashpoint for debate over the separation of church and state, and the "historical" value of the prayer mural, which Lagueux noted was affixed to the wall in 1963.

"No amount of debate can make the School Prayer anything other than a prayer, and a Christian one at that," Lagueux added.

What do you think? Should the Prayer Banner have stayed up, or was Judge Lagueux correct in ordering it to be removed?

Alex K--You do not have the right to promote your beliefs with my taxpaying money. Is it so difficult to understand that there are people who do not believe the same as you do and we pay taxes, too? And George, OF COURSE, that means no Allah or Shiva as well! Nobody is preventing you from believing what you want.

@Leo, the question was directed at Alex K, not you.

The give and take of public education over the last 10-20 years……. . We took prayer out of school.. We took the pledge of allegiance out of school… We took the US flag out of some schools… We took student accountability out of school…. We took the ability to discipline away from teachers. . . We gave resource (Police) officers offices in the schools… We gave metal detectors at the entrance doors….. We gave dogs to the schools, the drug sniffing kind not the mascot kind. . . Even little Timmy made the baseball team He never caught a ball, but that’s ok. . We gave every kid a trophy

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but the fact is that you can't blame the schools for not teaching what parents refused to teach at home.

I agree Patrick. Some care more about a banner on a wall than the outdated math books we are forced to use. It all starts and finishes at home. My point is little Timmy didn't learn to read or do math at home beacuse mommy and daddy both work and think its the teacher's job. The $10/hour girl at daycare doesnt have time to teach him either because she has a tattoo appointment today and needs to leave early. . Timmy didn't learn to throw or catch a baseball at home because mommy bought him "Grand Theaft Auto III" and he plays it every day after school till dark instead of playing catch with the kid that lives next door. . Timmy doesnt get homework and the little he does get he copied from the "Smart " kid in free period. He does play baseball beacuse everyone gets to play, but he is too fat to beat the throw to first, hes known as the "Easy Out". . But its all good No worries...... . Everyone gets a trophy
