Roll Out Your Barrel — Automated Recycling Starting in EP

East Providence launches its new every-other-week automated recycling program today.

East Providence’s automated recycling program starts today, Sept. 9.

Roll out your new blue 95-gallon barrel with your usual trash collection this week. Then you won't have to do it again for two weeks.

The major change is that recyclables will be picked up every other week now – not every week with the trash. You just have to get the new wheeled barrels out to the curbside every two weeks.

If your trash collection day is today, Sept. 9, for instance, your next recyclable day this month will be Sept. 23. Your should have received a schedule with the information that came with the barrel. Post it on your refrigerator.

How do you align your barrel to be snatched up by a mechanical arm on the new recycling truck? Line up the barrel with the arrows on the lid pointing toward the street and the wheels on the barrel facing your house. Be careful to place the barrel in a spot that doesn’t interfere with overhead wires or tree branches.

Do you want to get rid of your old barrels? Take them to the public works department on Commercial Way. A spot near the red shed just inside the DPW entrance is being designated for the collection of old bins. Do not place the old bins inside the new barrel.
