Sen. Reed Stopping by East Providence

Rhode Island's senior senator is meeting with the City Council and City Manager and touring a fire station under renovation.

Rhode Island’s senior senator pays a visit to East Providence on Monday morning, July 29.

Sen. Jack Reed is holding a “meet and greet” with the East Providence City Council and the City Manager at 10 am in the Council Chamber in City Hall.

Then after the “informal” session with the city officials, said City Clerk Kim Casci, Sen. Reed will visit Fire Station 4 at 66 Wampanoag Trail, which is being renovated with a federal reinvestment grant that he helped to secure for the city.

Reed will meet with Acting East Providence Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian and firefighters from Station 4. The federal funds are also being used to make improvements to Station 1 at 913 Broadway.

The session with the city’s leaders is being set up to give them and the senator a chance to chat about federal issues, especially the availability of grants for community development that might benefit East Providence, said Casci.

Casci said city department heads are being asked to suggest areas of interest or issues that Sen. Reed might be able to “keep an eye on” for them.
