Tiverton Seeks Public Input On Developing Commercial Areas At Workshop Tonight

The Tiverton Planning Board is hosting a public workshop on extending the Main Road and Bliss Four Corners commercial districts tonight at 6 p.m.

In an effort to encourage business in Tiverton, the town Planning Department is seeking public input on the expansion of two commercial zoning districts in town.

The public workshop will being tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, 343 Highland Road. Residents are being asked for input on the expansion and draft changes to the town zoning code regarding the Main Road and Bliss Four Corners commercial districts.

Planning Board Administrative Officer Kate Michaud stated intent of the workshop is to inspire revisions that would allow greater flexibility in boundaries and uses of the commercial zoning districts, reports The Sakonnet Times.

A survey on the town Planning Department's website is also gauging resident's views and will be open through Feb. 3.

"You will find that the survey contains lots of information regarding the concepts developed by the Town's consultants (the Cecil Group, Union Studio and Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc.)," reads the survey's description on the website. "The survey provides an opportunity for users to give feedback on the proposals, and to make suggestions."

Haaaa! Really? The people in this town have a hard enough time stopping at red lights and finding their Directional. Do you really think they will undertstand how to use a round-about?

Tivvee There will be a crash there every other day. With no light to stop traffic pedestrians will have to take their chances. People need to attend the DOT hearing and tell them this is a bad idea all around . Stop lights replaced rotaries because they are safe for pedestrians . Calling them roundabouts doesn't make them safer . An intersection with turn lanes and a smart light system moves traffic just as well and much safer.

What is this love affair that the DOT has with roundabouts while other states are banning them because they are dangerious RIDOT wants to put them at every intersection. They wanted to put three in portsmouth and the people fought it they wanted to put several in Middletown and they fought them now Tiverton. After they put in the roundabouts they will put a toll on them to pay for upkeep the DOT director screwed up the big dig in Boston and fired and now he wants to screw up RI even more then it already is.
