Diane I can assure you that both Mr.Rogers and Mr. Rose support working families,I see it everyday. If you do not believe me ask someone who lives in their ward.
SL November 03, 2012 at 08:31 PM
Ward2taxpayer I saw a post card Cunha sent out what a joke. It begins by stating are you tired of this, which he than lists items. This guy doesn't have a clue, he really wants you to believe he would be able to change what he lists. Furthermore having the budget commission here is the best thing that ever happened. Mr. Cunha needs to go back to Wall Street maybe he will find his intelligence there, because the more he says the sillier he sounds. Furtado did surprise me,appearred much smarter, never would of believed that from what I observe at the school committee sessions.
taxpayer November 03, 2012 at 09:05 PM
SL I couldn't agree with you more about Furtado! Clearly the best candidate for school committee!
Larry Elmaestro November 04, 2012 at 08:15 AM
Unfortunately Ward 4 only has one candidate running unopposed but that does not mean you have to vote for Chrissi Rossi, You can leave blank or better yet write in another choice of equal integrity like Sarah Palin... We need someone on the council that is ethical and capable of making the hard choices that our city requires not another union loyalist.
John November 04, 2012 at 12:15 PM
SL you clearly dont know anything about anything, running a city or a business. Its evident that you and Rogers stock the same shelves at shell. If you had a quater of the intelligence of some of the candidates you would listen more than you speak thats the problem you sit here and complain about a sharp individual that you know absolutely nothing about. Do you not drive around this city?? are you happy whats been going on?? Im sorry the issues that concern you most is how much soda is on isle 2 and what bag of chips you can buy to watch reality tv shows. then wake up and post more negative junk because you have nothing better to do. Why dont you call Cunha and ask him questions like I did? Because you dont have the balls. Your a complete idiot. And the more you speak the more we see who you are.
Diane November 04, 2012 at 01:06 PM
SL you just do not get it. Rogers and Rose may support working families in their own wards, but they do not support working families in the entire city of East Providence, which should be the job of all our elected officials sitting on the city council, no matter what ward you live in. Just so you know I happen to live in ward 2 and unless you bow down to these two people and help line their pockets they do nothing for you. We need new people with a fresh start working for all of East Providence residence come November 6th.
C the light November 04, 2012 at 02:08 PM
I couldn't agree with you more "We desperately need change in this city" that means we need people who walk the talk!!! VOTE FOR MONTEIRO AND FERREIRA ON TUESDAY real hard working intelligent men = Real Change :)
C the light November 04, 2012 at 02:15 PM
I live here too, this is just not true.
C the light November 04, 2012 at 02:22 PM
As a community we have to be on board for the changes we need. We cannot just sit back an complain. We have to work the elected officials, make the accountable and follow through, going to council meetings, school committee meetings and speak up for ourselves. THERE IS ONLY POWER IN NUMBERS/KNOWLEDGE FROM HERE ON OUT PEOPLE.....WE CAN BE A PART OF THE CHANGE IF WE ARE A TEAM...WE WILL CHANGE AND TAKE BACK OUR CITY!!!
rhoder222 November 04, 2012 at 02:52 PM
SL - I have listened to Mr. Cunha, attended the debates and spoken with him directly, he is sincere, intelligent and dedicated to bettering all in East Providence.
rhoder222 November 04, 2012 at 03:03 PM
To all: if you attended or watched on tv the City Council Meetings, you would have observed the Rogers/Rose team in action for yourself. Mr. "Mayor" Rogers is a gavel banging junkie and inflicted this at anyone that spoke to a different way of doing things that "the "Mayor" and his friend's "special interests" were being challenged or opposed, to the degree that a new gavel may have to be budgeted for as I am sure the current one must be cracked or smashed on the bottom where it frequently hit the table hard....perhaps the table should be examined for damage as well...there were times when his self professed "good friend" former councilman Mr. Coogan-who's wife's family owns Horton's Seafood and Mr Rogers was employed at- would be disruptive from the back of the chamber and it was allowed..however, at times residents making their opinion known in the correct council procedure were gaveled during their talk time - unappropiate and rude! Mr. Rose followed Mr.Rogers in everything, and had not much contribution to creative ideas or solutions to city issues, except for promoting parades and the "tow list". One company remaining on that list was owned by former councilman Coognan, interestingly Mr.Rose drove for that same company and Mr. Rose's father reportedly purchased that company late last year,by the way, was that license transferred properly? This is the opportunity to get new people dedicated to correcting the ills of this city and promoting unity for the city elected
rhoder222 November 04, 2012 at 03:37 PM
In reflecting on recent city debates - I attended all - Mr. Rogers and Mr. Rose did NOT attend the one recently held at the Newman Church, very cowardedly on their part, not fair to their opponents or to residents. Another reason not to vote for either of these "no-shows". This was the best organized debate held and provided the candidates opportunity to answer questions from residents, and each other, which was interesting. It was during this part of the evening that another candidate showed failure and bad judgement! The Ward 1 opponents, Mr.Edward Lynch and Mr. James Briden were the last to speak. When Mr. Lynch had the opportunity to ask a question of Mr. Briden, he harshly accused him of not fulfilling his position as City Solicitor, of threathening to leave the position mid way through the 1st year, and renogitiate his salary in a "back door" deal in order to continue, Mr. Lynch then went on to accuse Mr. Briden of being affiliated with the Central Falls Mayor who is sentenced to jail, this was all shocking, appalling , out of order and TOTALLY WRONG!!!!! Mr. Lynch was very confused himself and got his facts wrong, it was another man that did those actions, NOT Mr. Briden!!!! Mr. Lynch also loudly picked on a resident who was quietly observing the debate during his most distruptive rant, again, strange, belligerant, unprofessional behavior! He also didn't apologize to Mr. Briden, or the resident. Is this a man that you want representing you or our city? I Don't.
taxpayer November 04, 2012 at 05:12 PM
rhoder222 I agree that it was cowardly of Rogers and Rose to skip the Newman debate. Cunha is for sure the better choice for East Providence!.... AND Ferriera is a puppet for Rogers, any vote for him will be bad for EP Schools for the next 2 years!
Diane November 04, 2012 at 06:20 PM
C the light, take off your sunglasses, because it is true, I know of a family that did not get any help when they went to see Rogers. 222, If you were at the first debate that Rogers attended when Cunha said "everyone should pay their tax bills". Rogers stated "that is why the city is sending out the form on the homestead exemption to make sure people pay their taxes". Rogers is dead wrong on his answer, because this form has nothing to do with who is paying their tax bills. It's just to make sure the person lives there. I agree, Cunha is the better choice.
SL November 04, 2012 at 07:12 PM
John, wow! Calling names! So that is the kind of folks who support Cunha......punk material. Just for the record,I do not work stocking shelves not that there is anything wrong with that. I have a corporate job overseeing 150 folks. Cunha not!
SL November 04, 2012 at 08:46 PM
What other note a debate has to be with at least two people. If you are referring to Mr. Cunha's speech than like his postcard he sent stating all the chages he would make....total nonsense. First he or anyone else does not have the power to change,I know that and all of you should as well. The more Mr. Cunha states the more we find out how incompetent he is regarding the city. If he got involved and showed up at meetings over the last year or so,maybe he would be a little more informed.
John November 04, 2012 at 09:02 PM
I dont know what you have against Mr.Cunha, its sad to see people like your self on a Sunday afternoon have nothing better to do than write negative posts on someone whos at least is making an effort to improve in any which way you can. You claim to say that the budet commission was a good thing that happend? And now your stating that you work for a corporate job overseeing 150 folks??? Oh I understand you work at a cemetery!!!!! Now its clear. If your going to post things about someone negative you should be posting about Rogers, did you not see his criminal list?? Serioulsy!!! Its just sad and here we are people like yourself bashing someone for no reason. Corporate my a--
SL November 04, 2012 at 09:37 PM
John I see it is only ok for you to call names, and only ok if everyone agrees with you otherwise you call them names. You also seem to take issue with certain types of jobs. Like I said I went with an open mind to meet and hear Mr Cunha and I was and am unimpressed. PS I hate reality shows.
C the light November 05, 2012 at 02:18 AM
Diane, yes to be sure the person lives there...correct, however, to enforce that if they don't they are not receiving an exemption that they shouldn't. My sunglasses are off and I see way too much here and all over the country people taking advantage of things that they are no entitled too....how long do you think this has been happening...do you own or rent (if you rent then you probably don't understand) that's the problem.
C the light November 05, 2012 at 02:27 AM
OMG we all have done nothing wrong in our past? Hummm I consider myself to have learned from my mistakes....how about you? Are these the saints and angels speaking GET REAL PEOPLE IT'S 2012....
prolifemomri November 05, 2012 at 12:55 PM
Won't vote for anyone unless i know where they stand on life, marriage and religious liberty. Think it doesn't matter at the city level? Have you forgotten the infamous "East Providence Declaration" by Katie K? Why is it so difficult to find the answers to what amounts to qualifying info for political office for many?
TownieParent November 05, 2012 at 09:30 PM
"“Win or lose this election, I want to work with Steve because I know he has some expertise I can learn from,” Mr. Anthony Ferreira , EP Post Sept 28th 2012 What more do you need to know? Even his opponent thinks Steve Furtado is the most knowledgeble candidate for school committee!!!
JL November 06, 2012 at 02:29 AM
SL you obviously are the reason why our city is the way that it is. It is people like you who don't see the light. Helder doesn't attend the meeting because he has a very demanding job and works late hours, unlike Bruce Rogers who only works 20 hours and collects for the rest. Bruce is using our money to collect when he clearly has plenty of time to work full time, what is his disability? Other than stupidity, I can't seem to find one. There is no way that I would vote for him and anyone else who can see this will also not vote for him. He has done nothing these past years for the community other than make backroom deals for people who want favors in return for his personal gains. We need new blood in our city, fresh ideas and people who actually have a background in this, unlike Bruce. Helder Cunha didn't speak well at his first debate, but that is because it was just that his first debate and was nervous as would anyone else in his position. I know for sure that Helder once elected will partake in every meeting held for the city council and will have the community's best interest at heart. He will also respond to any concerns as a city council member should (Hence why Bruce has always returned your calls that is what he should be doing, Cunha has not been elected. therefore you are comparing apples to oranges). Maybe SL you are one of the people who have benefited from a backroom deal with Bruce Rogers, what did you get in return? A job in the city?

I heard that Bob Gagnon is running as a write in candidate for Ward 4 City Council. I don't live in that ward, but if you do, that's the choice you have.
C the light November 06, 2012 at 03:45 PM
thx, I am lucky enough to not live in that ward, I have plenty of choices...which I value.
