Winter Storm Warning for RI

Between 4 and 8 inches of snow accumulation is expected, beginning Saturday around noon and continuing overnight.

 

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts early Saturday morning that will be in effect through Sunday morning.

Saturday's forecast calls for snowfall beginning around noon and with total "plowable" accumulations between 4 and 8 inches. The heaviest and steadiest snowfall will occur overnight before tapering off between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday. 10-15 mph winds can be expected with gusts up to 25 mph.

Residents should be aware that the wintry conditions may make driving difficult with limited visibilities of one quarter to one half mile at times.

According to the NWS, anyone traveling in the next 24 to 36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify travel plans if necessary.
