We Pay Their Health Benefits!

Taxpayers are responsible for city council members' health benefits.

Have a good cry on this one as the city goes broke! The below was taken from East Providence Patch.

I guess there is no split vote on this city council issue - five for five on health benefits! The school committee does not receive health benefits.

I bet Michael DiGioia will run for state representative.

Total Costs Paid to Compensated Committees, Board and Commissions

  • City Council - $83,098
  • School Committee - $19,915
  • Waterfront Commission - $29,066
  • Canvassing Board - $2,250
  • Assessment - $1,050
  • Planning Board - $3,000
  • Zoning Board - $5,800

Total Cost: $144,179

There should be no benefits to any of these positions. Stipends should be the only compensation. This government is running amuck. Reforms are needed to the charter to stop this stuff. No wonder the city is going broke.

Health care has risen135% in just 11 years through no fault of the patients; but rather, it has been "greed" over "need" and the emplyees will pay dearly for the political corruption in Congress and in the Wall St. industry. Where are the taxpayers in this mess?
