MJF Kids, Staff Donate 475 Food Items to Bread of Life

Rumford's Myron J. Francis (MJF) Elementary School's annual food drive benefiting the nearby Bread of Life Food Pantry brought in more than 475 non-perishable food items, and you can add to that, too.

MJF faculty, staff, students, families and the extended community together contributed, packaged and delivered the items to the Pantry at Newman Congregational Church, 100 Newman Ave., Rumford.

The pantry's a collaborative effort of six East Providence churches: Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Church of the Epiphany, Evangelical Covenant Church, Haven United Methodist Church, Newman Congregational Church, and Saint Margaret's Church. It's open every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. to residents of East Providence and the surrounding areas in need of food assistance, regardless of religious beliefs.

If you'd like to pitch in with donations of your own,  especially needed items include: soup, cereal, spaghetti sauce, tuna and crackers. Food can be dropped off at the church Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., or between 2 and 5 p.m.; and on Fridays between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This month, the pantry is open Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.

The pantry asks donors to call the church office at Newman Congregational Church at 401-434-4742 to arrange your drop-off.
