'Fall Into Sports' Fundraiser for Middle School Sports Coming Up

Project 106 is teaming up with The Whiskey Republic on Saturday, Aug. 24.

A fundraiser for fall sports at East Providence’s two middle schools has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, at The Whiskey Republic club in Providence.

“Fall Into Sports” is being sponsored by Project 106 – one of two citizens groups formed in East Providence to save middle school sports at Martin and Riverside Middle Schools. The event runs from 2 to 9 pm.

Middle school sports were eliminated by the East Providence Budget Commission in a cost-cutting move about a year ago. Parents and supporters immediately launched fundraising groups to bring back the sports.

The groups managed to raise enough money to bring back baseball and softball at the schools last spring. Now they are focusing on the fall sports.

Project 106 is partnering up with The Whiskey Republic for a full day of great music, food and fun, said Jessica Beauchaine, head of Project 106.

Bands scheduled to play on Saturday include “Pier 6,” “Mark Rock,” “Crushed Velvet” and “Brother to Brother.”

There also will be raffles with prizes.

Tickets are $10 each. All proceeds, she said, will go toward the funding of sports at both middle schools.

Contact Beauchaine at Beau2119@aol.com for tickets. A limited number will be sold at the door.

There also will be complimentary valet parking. The club is located at 515 South Water St. in Providence.
