Monday Essentials: Business Expo, Cancer Tournament, 'Zumbathon' Coming Up

Here are some things to know about this week, Sept. 30-Oct. 6, in and around East Providence:

The Ocean State Small Business Expo is Wednesday, Oct 2, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick from 11 am to 7 pm. Titled “Business to Business,” the expo features more than 100 exhibitors, educational workshops designed to help small businesses grow and a Business-After-Hours cocktail reception to end the day. Admission is free with a business card.

The Riverside Little League hosts its fall baseball Cancer Awareness Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, from 9 am-5 pm each day at the Forbes Complex off the Wamnoag Trail just north of Forbes Street. There will be raffles and baskets, a 50/50 raffle, face painting and more with all proceeds to benefit families battling cancer. The Newman YMCA in Seekonk hosts its second annual “Party in Pink Zumbathon” for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. There will be raffles from various businesses.  

The Rhode Island Association of Admission Officers (RIAAO) will host its 37th annual Regional College Fair on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 3 pm a Rhode Island College Recreation Center Field House, 600 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Nearly 200 college representatives will attend. There also will be financial aid presentations at 1:30 and 2:30 pm

The East Bay Coalition for the Homeless hosts its first East Bay 5K on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Colt State Park in Bristol.  The scenic 5K and 1-mile walk courses wind through the park on the edge of the bay. Help families help themselves! Click here to register.
