Councilors meet Tuesday: The year's first City Council meeting is tomorrow, Jan. 7. On their agenda, councilors will discuss a school building/capital investment plan, including a corporate sponsorship program, introduced by Mayor James Briden.

The council will also consider adopting the state's building code for the city.

Check here for a report from their last meeting Dec. 17, where they OK'd a tax stabilization plan and delayed a formal search for a permanent City Manager.

Clear that snow - East Providence has a snow clearing ordinance requiring you to clear the walk in front of your property within 24 hours of a snowstorm. The fines for not clearing your walk have been modified since last year:

First offense/storm: Written warning

Second offense/storm: $25 fine

Third offense/storm: $75 fine

Rain today, ice tomorrow: Rain forecast for the area was supposed to begin overnight, with a quarter of an inch of rainfall expected today and temperatures in the snow-melting 50 degree range. If you still haven't cleared snow away from your walks, some outdoor elbow grease may be necessary today, unless you own a pair of ice skates — temperatures are expected to fall below freezing again for the next few days.

Tree drop-off/pickup - The City of East Providence is accepting Christmas trees at various locations throughout the city. They'll also be collecting them at the curb according to your regular pickup schedule.
