Looking for a few things to do this weekend, Aug. 23-25, in and around East Providence?
St. Francis Xavier Church hosts a “live walk concert” Saturday morning in the church parking lot on the corner of Grove Avenue and North Carpenter Street. You can learn to be a Leslie Sansone “walk leader” while taking a two-mile fitness walk to Motown, pop, rock and disco music outdoors with Father Scott Pontes, a certified walk leader himself. Food, fun, friends and plenty of walking will be done with raffles and prizes taking place throughout the morning event, which walks off starting at 11 am.
You can start your weekend shopping at the farmers market at the Barrington Congregational Church on Saturday from 9 am to noon. There are always new vendors on hand with seasonal produce, breads, pastries and other home-grown goods. Among the usual vendors are New Urban Farmers in Pawtucket, Aquidneck Honey in Middletown, Providence Coffee Roasters in Providence, Nettie's Kettle Corn in North Providence, Oakdale Farm in Rehoboth, and Seven Stars Bakery in Providence and East Providence.
Support East Providence middle school sports at the “Fall Into Sports” fundraiser on Saturday from 2 to 9 pm at The Whiskey Republic waterfront nightclub in Providence. It’s sponsored by Project 106 – one of the two middle school sports fundraising groups in East Providence. A day of food, fun and music by “Pier 6,” “Mark Rock,” “Crushed Velvet” and “Brother to Brother” is on tap, along with raffles and prizes. Tickets are $10 each. Contact Jessica Beauchaine at Beau2119@aol.com for tickets. A limited number will be sold at the door. The waterfront club is located at 515 South Water St.
Or you might be able to find a “treasure” for your boat from some of the so-called “trash” that will offered at the “dock sale” Saturday morning at Brewer Cove Haven Marina on Bullocks Cove in Barrington starting at 9 am. The marina is located at 101 Narragansett Drive next to Haines Memorial State Park.
