Riverside Middle School Winterfest Raffle Returns Saturday

After a year's hiatus, the raffle returns for the annual Riverside Middle School Winterfest Saturday (separate from EP's Winterfest), the school PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year — and there's room on the organizers' team.

"We do need volunteers," said Sue Holstein, fundraising co-chair Riverside Middle School PTA, partnered with Jane Viera. Holstein said they're looking for people of any age to help with setup, breakdown and to serve as runners during the raffle. Holstein said the opportunity is a good one for any high school students interested in filling their community service requirements.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and runs till 2 p.m. at the school,  179 Forbes St., Riverside. Admission is free, but patrons are encouraged to bring spending money for craft items, raffles and food.

The paper raffle, where $1 buys you 10 rolled up papers with a ticket inside, returns with some big-ticket items, including a 40-inch flat screen TV, a Dr. Dre Beat Headphone set, and two Barnes & Noble Nooks.

Entertainment includes a kids gaming area run by the Riverside Venture Scouts and a performance by Center Stage Dance Studios at 11:30 a.m. followed by a concert by School of Rock of Seekonk.

St. Angelo's on Wampanoag Trail will be providing breakfast and lunch at the event for a nominal fee.

Holstein hopes fundraising hits the event's high-water mark - $8,000 in 2011. "That's our goal this year," she said. Assuming the weather holds, the event usually draws 1,000 to 2,000 people.
