Luiza Medeiros, 97, Leaves Hundreds of Survivors

Her funeral will be held today at Rebello Funeral Home in East Providence; she leaves 10 children, 43 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.

  Luiza Medeiros, formerly of Miles Avenue, East Providence, died Thursday, May 16, 2013. She was 97.  She was the wife of the late Manuel P. Medeiros. Born Aug. 26, 1915, in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Rocha Amaral and Maria Rosa Cabral.  Medeiros leaves numerous survivors, including 10 children, 43 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.  Her funeral will begin today at 7:45 am from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse St., Providence. Carol A. Christman, 75, Registered Nurse

Her funeral will be held today at Perry-McStay Funeral Home in East Providence.

Carol A. Christman, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of East Providence, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at her home. She was 75. She was the wife of the late Gerald H. Christman Sr. and the late Paul E. Coleman. She was born in Providence, a daughter of the late George H. and Margaret (Humphrey) Belfield. A Registered Nurse, she worked for St. Joseph's Hospital for 26 years before retiring in 1989 as director of St. Joseph Ambulatory Care Center. After moving to Florida, she worked for 20 years in health care before retiring in 2010.  Her funeral will be held today at 8:45 am from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Augustine's Church, 639 Mt. Irene Bettencourt, 88, Ex-Wampanoag Diner Owner

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday in St. Martha's Church at 9 am; there are no calling hours.

Irene (Costa) Bettencourt, formerly of Vincent Avenue, East Providence, died surrounded by her family, on Monday, May 13, 2013. She was 88. She was the wife of the late Stephen "Harry" Bettencourt. She and her husband owned the Wampanoag Diner in East Providence from 1954 to 2000. Born Dec. 30, 1924, in Seekonk, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Almeida) Costa. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 9 am in St. Martha's Church, 2595 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. There will be no calling hours. Libby Robinson, 81, Died in RI Hospital

Graveside funeral services were held on May 14.

Libby Robinson, of East Providence, died suddenly on May 13, 2013, at Rhode Island Hospital in the Jane Brown Unit after a short illness. She was 81. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Fannie Robinson. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, May 14, in Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Rd., Warwick. Shiva was private. Arrangements were handled by by Shalom Memorial Chapel, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston.

Sarah N. Smith, 88, Retired CNA

Sarah N. Smith, of Blanding Avenue, East Providence died on Wednesday May 8, 2013. She was 88.  She was the wife of the late William H. Smith. Born in Comer, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Emma (Barnett) Howard. Smith was a Certified Nurses Assistant for Rosewood Manor before retiring. Estelle J. Machon, 66, Retired E.P. Schools Secretary

  Estelle J. (Dusablon) Machon, of Riverside, East Providence, died peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2013. She was 66. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Pauling (Dauphinais) Dusablon. A Katherine Gibb graduate, she worked as a secretary in the East Providence schools before retiring and served as the president of the secretarial union for 10 years.  Calling hours are Wednesday, May 15, from 5 to 8 pm in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave., Riverside. Roger P. Morency, 69, Riverside Toolmaker

Roger Phillip Morency, of Harvey Avenue, Riverside, East Providence, passed away on May 8, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family. He was 69. He was the husband of Doreen (Leonard) Morency. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Phillip and Jeannette (LaForge) Morency. Morency was a toolmaker for 40 years and a member of the RI National Guard. Roger A. Duprat, 88, Veteran, Insurance Exec

Roger A. Duprat, 88, of Argyle Avenue, Riverside, East Providence, formerly of Barrington, died peacefully on May 7, 2013. He was 88. He was the husband of Rose (Teahan) Duprat for 64 years. Born in Boston, he grew up in Willamansett Mass., the only son of the late Athanase Duprat and Viola Cummings Duprat. A Marine Corps veteran, he fought in the Pacific in World War II. He raised his three daughters in Barrington and had a long career in the insurance industry. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 13, 2013 in St. Luke’s Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 11 am. David J. Welshman, 67: Welder for Alex Welding Company

  David J. Welshman, 67, of St. Joseph St., Woonsocket, died May 6, 2013 at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Jeana Welshman of Warwick. Born in Fort Bragg, NC, he was the son of the late Donald L. and Lillian R. (Scott) Welshman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Lisa Welshman and Dori Wojcik both of Barrington, David Welshman of Riverside, Derek Welshman of Seekonk, Charles Welshman of Bristol, Justin Welshman and Joshua Welshman both of Warwick and 8 grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend A Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 9 am in Sacred Heart Church, Taunton Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Rehoboth Village Cemetery.
