Coastway Bank Hosts Home Buyers Information Session

Attendees received valuable information about the multiple steps of buying a home from experts.

Karen Xavier-Dacunha, along with real estate agent Michelle Cartwright and Ted Bourque of Pilgrim Title, spoke before a group of eight prospective home buyers Saturday afternoon at the East Providence Branch of Coastway Community Bank. The two-hour information session informed the group of local residents about the various stages of buying a home: lending, browsing for home and closing procedures.While the crowd was small, the talk of credit scores and lending, negotiating and settlement statements held the group's complete attention. Best Buddies Hosts Event at East Providence High School

Activity day hosted by group committed to bringing friendship to those who need it most.

The East Providence High School gym was packed on Saturday for Boogie for Buddies, an event facilitated by Best Buddies of Rhode Island. The global non-profit, which pairs intellectually, physically and developmentally disabled school children with students from the general population, has chapters established in colleges, high schools and middle schools throughout the state. State Director of the Rhode Island chapter Karen E. Schnabel spoke about the core of the program and what it aims to achieve.  "It's really about friendship," said Schnabel. Local artist and firefighter Rick Billings uses his experiences at the station to create comic strips and much more.

Most people come home after work and talk about their day. Rick Billings of the East Providence Fire Department illustrates it. A firefighter for more than 16 years, Billings creates a monthly comic book for 1st Responder, an industry magazine reaching fire departments up and down the East coast. From firefighting zombies to badge-wearing clowns, Billings’ comics offer a satirical look at life on the inside among East Providence’s bravest. His foray into the world of visual art started long before his post at Ladder 1, Station 2 in Riverside. Billings, who lives in Barrington with his partner, Kathy Kirman, and her daughter Hayley, is a lifelong illustrator and painter. His work has been showcased in various galleries and art shows …
