Celebrating Black History Month in E.P.

The annual Celebration of Black History Month in East Providence took place Wednesday evening in City Hall with music, readings, poetry and performances.

East Providence celebrated Black History Month again on Wednesday evening in the City Hall. Hundreds of people filled the Council Chamber. The event was sponsored by the Office of Affirmative Action. It treated everyone to music, readings, poetry and performers, including the United middle school rap group from AS 220 of Providence; readings by Orlo Avenue School pupils Kaylin Foley, Angelina Gomes, Aaron Levesque, Nathan Lathrobe and Haylee Mota; the Brother's Keeper Christian ministry, and the the Emma G. Whiteknact School Children's Choir. There also was a display of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. artwork. The Rev. Steven Gomes gave an invocation. Celebrate Black History Tonight

A Celebration of Black History takes place today at 6 pm in the East Providence City Hall.

A Black History Month celebration takes place tonight, Feb. 13, in City Hall. This “family-friendly” event will include a performance by the East Providence Children’s Choir, readings by poets, and a display of artwork and memorabilia. The event starts at 6 pm in the Council Chambers. It is sponsored by the Office of Affirmative Action.  The celebration is free and open to anyone. Light refreshments will be served.
