School Committee Member Announces City Council Candidacy

Chrissy Rossi celebrated her plans to run with community members at the Willet American Legion.

Chrissy Rossi is in the running. The East Providence School Committee member is vying for a city council seat in the next election. And she hasn't wasted any time on the campaign trail. On Wednesday night, she announced her candidacy at Willett Avenue's American Legion. Before locals pulled up in the parking lot to show their support, Rossi and her clan of all-female campaign managers made coffee and placed bowls of popcorn on tables throughout in the downstairs area of the local haunt. Why the need to abandon her post on the school committee, a position she's held since December of 2010?  "I can't get enough done," adding the city council has more power than school committee members. Rossi: East Providence is 'Politically Constipated'

The always outspoken School Committee and Deficit Elimination Committee member Chrissy Rossi speaks to East Providence Patch about her views on the city's current deficit-related crisis.

Chrissy Rossi is admittedly not a shy person, nor is she on a quest for approval. The woman who takes her often sardonic Power Point presentations to City Council and School Committee meetings chuckles at her detractors who she claims refer to her as "John Rossi's loud-mouthed wife." In a sit-down interview with East Providence Patch on Monday afternoon, the School and Deficit Elimination Committee (DEC) member held nothing back in regards to her views on what she sees as the poor state of her home city and what and who is responsible. People like to downgrade the Mayor in East Providence, just because we have a Council-Manager form of government. The City Manager might manage the city, but a good Mayor leads it! That doesn't mean day-to-day operations but generating solutions and building a consensus on how to address the big issues.   more ›
