State Police Holiday 'Click It or Ticket' Yields Over 200 Seatbelt Violations
The following are enforcement results for this year's State Police Thanksgiving Click It or Ticket campaign.
Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, announced today that during the Thanksgiving Day Holiday period, the Rhode Island State Police joined state and local police across the nation in the “Click-It or Ticket” campaign. The Rhode Island State Police deployed additional patrols throughout the State with funding obtained through the Rhode Island Department of Transportation Office on Highway Safety. These additional patrols targeted speeders, drunk and drugged drivers, as well as child restraint and seat belt violators. I still believe it is the choice of the driver to put on a seat belt. We don't need another law to force this and the existing law was scaled back last June for being a primary offense. Now there needs to be another offense before the revenue agents can charge you with a belt violation. These roadblocks and other gimmicks to force compliance with the belts is overkill.
