You're Invited to a 'Family Fun Day'

The East Providence Prevention Coalition is hosting an age-appropriate event for kids up to age 12 on Saturday, May 18, at the Crescent Park Carousel grounds.

Mark your calendar to have some family fun on May 18. The East Providence Prevention Coalition is holding a "Family Fun Day" – weather permitting. It will take place on the grounds of the Crescent Park Carousel at 700 Bullocks Point Ave. in Riverside. The event is age-appropriate for toddlers up to kids age 12, said Jennifer Wall, executive director of the prevention coalition. But all family members are welcome to attend. “The main attraction will be a competitive obstacle course run by 212 Health and Performance,” Wall said. “All participants aged 5-12 are welcome to participate and compete against others in their age group for the fastest time.” Top winners will be awarded prizes to be sent through the mail. Deadline Nearing for Carousel Jobs

The Crescent Park Carousel has part-time positions available but the deadline for submitting an application to the East Providence human resources office is Monday, March 25.

Want a summer job at the Crescent Park Carousel? You better get your application in at City Hall. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 25. The carousel is looking for ride operators, ticket sellers and collectors, and clerks for the concession and gift stands. You can get more information and an application online at the East Providence website or in City Hall at the human resources office. To repeat, the deadline for applications is Monday.

Councilors Push to Repair Carousel

The City Council will ask the East Providence Budget Commission on Thursday to approve 'urgent' repairs and painting of the historic Looff Carousel.

The City Council will ask the East Providence Budget Commission on Thursday to approve two urgent requests – repairs to the windows and painting of the historic Looff Carousel in Crescent Park. “Time is of the essence,” said Jeanne Boyle, planning director. “It is deteriorating quickly.” The City Council voted 5-0 Monday evening at a special meeting called for by Mayor James Briden to put an RFP for carpentry work before the budget board with a request that it be approved without any more delay. The council is also seeking an approval to develop a separate RFP for painting. The Budget Commission had approved work to the carousel last September, but at a $70,000 price for both tasks that was much less than the three bids for the work – …

Tree Lighting to Wrap Up Thanksgiving

The 6th annual tree-lighting ceremony in East Providence is today, Nov. 25, at the Cresecent Park Carousel from 3 to 6 pm.

The sixth annual tree-lighting ceremony at the Crescent Park Carousel in Riverside will put a wrap on Thanksgiving weekend today. The ceremony will run this afternoon, Nov. 25, from 3 pm to around 6 pm, said Tracy Johnson, secretary to the East Providence Carousel Commission. “We will light the tree around 5:30,” she said. You may want to arrive a little earlier to get your photo taken with Santa Claus. He will hitch a ride on a fire truck to get to the carousel around 3 pm. “He will be available for photos until 5 pm,” said Johnson. Also if you added the carousel to this event it would bring more money to the City and the proceeds can go to Riverside Middle School so they can get back there SPORTS that the children enjoyed from which the City took away in lack of founds, another one of my opinions...   more ›

Carousel Park Commission to Host Food and Wine Event

  East Providence's Carousel Park Commission in collaboration with Anna Gasbarro of Gasbarro Liquors will host their First Annual Food and Wine Pairing on Thursday night at Crescent Park/Looff Carousel. The event includes a silent auction and will highlight local cuisine from right here in East Providence from restaurants like Avenue N, B. Pinelli’s, Blount Seafood, China Gourmet, Lucky’s Bar & Grille, Madeira, Oxford Tavern and St. Angelo’s. Knowledgeable staff from Gasbarro’s will be on hand to help attendees find the perfect wine. Guests will also enjoy desserts and coffee from Taunton Avenue Bakery and Providence Coffee Roasters.
